How do I know what my child will be swimming?
Meet line-ups are posted on the website a day before each meet. Coaches make sure each child is entered into events they can handle. Bring a permanent marker to write event numbers on their hands. Each child can swim a maximum of three individual events and two relays. Swimmers 6 & under swim two events (freestyle and backstroke). Every child swims at the meets they've committed to.
What if my child gets sick the day of a meet?
Notify the head coach, scoring person, and chairperson as soon as possible.
What happens if I can't work one of my jobs?
It's your responsibility to find a replacement, and to let both the chair and co-chair know there's been a change.
What if we have a schedule conflict with a meet?
RSVP "not attending" on the website. Dual meets require 1 week notice, invitational meets 2 weeks, and championship meets about a month. Please don't rely on verbal communication with the coach for an RSVP.
What should I bring to a meet?
Goggles and a Barracudas cap (required for long hair), towels, weather-appropriate clothing, a blanket if cold, a small tent (optional but kids love them), snacks, folding chairs, games/books for between events, an umbrella, and money for concessions. Label everything! Meet areas get crowded and kids do a lot of tent-hopping.
How do I know when my child swims?
There's a sign at every meet (the "bullpen") indicating which events are lining up. Bring your child there; the clerk of course gets them in order and junior coaches take them to their races. After swimming, kids see the coaches for feedback, then return to the team area. They can leave after their last event.
Dual meet vs. invitational?
Most meets are dual meets. We swim against one other team at their pool or ours. There are three invitationals each year (boys-only, girls-only, and high-school-age only) with many teams, heat prizes, and team awards.
What are Classic and City?
The end-of-season championship meets, held at a local high school with at least eight teams. City is for swimmers 12 & under who've met time standards plus all swimmers 13 & over. Classic is for any swimmer 12 & under who hasn't qualified for a City event. All swimmers 6 & under automatically swim Classic. Every meet before championships is a chance to qualify for City.
How do I find my child's times?
Times are on the back of ribbons and posted on the website. Note: Huntington Pool is 20 yards, not the standard 25, so home-meet times are multiplied by 1.3 to get the official time. Posted/ribbon times are already converted.
What happens if it rains?
Meets usually go on in the rain. Show up unless notified otherwise. There's only a delay for thunder or lightning. A 30-minute delay from the last occurrence. Don't leave until your coach announces a cancellation.
Parents are responsible for their swimmers and siblings during the entire meet. Some jobs make parents inaccessible to their children. Please read job descriptions fully before committing.
